Ted Peters -UFOs, Extraterrestrials, and the future of Humanity

Whether or not we share our galactic neighborhood with extraterrestrial civilizations, the question–“are we alone?”–is decisive for the future of the human race on Earth. If we assume we are alone, then it becomes even more urgent to tend to the life-giving fertility of our home planet. If we confirm that we share the Milky Way with other intelligent species, we must quickly determine whether they are foe or friend. If foe, then we must consider a planetary defense. If friend, then life on Earth could be enriched through interstellar communication, caring companionship, religious exchange, and cultural advance. It is time for ufologists and astrobiolgoists together with astrotheologians and astroethicists to ready us terrestrials for the drama about to enfold.

Ted Peters is author of UFOs: God’s Chariots? Spirituality, Ancient Aliens, and Religious Yearnings in the Age of Extraterrestrials (Career Press New Page Books, 2014). He is also co-editor of a new book, Astrotheology: Science and Theology Meet Extraterrestrial Life (Cascade Books, 2018). Ted is a Lutheran pastor who specializes in the interaction between science and religion. He is a past MUFON field investigator and once served as Louisiana State Director. He currently teaches theology and ethics in Berkeley, California, at the Graduate Theological Union and serves as co-editor of the journal, Theology and Science. See his website: TedsTimelyTake.com.
